When I began doing rentals last year I started hearing this phrase “LEED Certified.”  I didn’t know what it meant but knew that it was a big deal when someone said “Oh, this luxury building or this apartment complex, this one is LEED Certified.”  So before you come take a look at the newly LEED certified 7 Cameron luxury apartments in Cambridge, you can know what it means to be LEED certified.

The Renaissance continues in Downtown Crossing, with $3.2 million in city funds slated for improvements in the area, including sidewalk repairs, new illuminated street signs, street repaving, and bike racks.

“It’s time for us to go back into the Downtown Crossing area and do some reinvestments there, because things are changing and new businesses keep wanting to come there,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino is quoted by the Globe.

In addition, developers in the area are expected to make $10 million in privately funded improvements, including a new entryway for the MBTA station at Franklin and Washington Streets.

Over the next four years, 1,200 housing units will be built in and around Downtown Crossing, drawing some 3,000 residents to the area.

In the same vein of revitalization, a total of ten new restaurants have recently opened or are on the horizon. Back Deck, a collaboration of Bradley Fredericks of Fajitas and Ritas fame and acclaimed chef Paul Sussman, opened earlier this summer on West Street.

The Element is part of a larger overall Green District, a massive $125 million project with six buildings comprised of 500 environmentally conscious units along Brainerd Road in Allston.

Last month's departure of Bertucci's brought the Atrium Mall's occupancy to merely 20%.

Today the Boston Herald announced that Chestnut Hill’s struggling Atrium Mall is currently under agreement. Bulfinch Cos. plans to purchase the site from Simon Property Group for $50 million.

Bulfinch reportedly plans to convert the site into medical office use. Tenants have been fleeing the Atrium Mall left and right, with Bertucci’s leaving last month and J. Crew and the Loft also reported to leave. This site is especially attractive for medical use given the overwhelming demand for space near Longwood Medical Area. 

This comes a little over a year after the Macy’s location further down Route 9 was sold. That site is now being converted into a fitness center, cinema, and several retail stores.
